Blueberries are a healthy plant-based superfood. Vegan antioxidants and phytonutrients.

Before anyone knew what the heck an acai berry was, blueberries were holding it down as the OG superfood. Lots of other exotic fruits steal the limelight these days but you'd be foolish to overlook this humble berry.

Straight up, blueberries are among the healthiest fruits in the game. They are loaded with phytonutrients, have 6 times the antioxidants of an apple, have been shown to improve memory, delay cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease, and may lower cancer risk (notably by increasing cancer fighting immune cells).

Whether they're frozen or fresh, it doesn't matter. Their nutritional value is the same. While nothing tastes quite like a fresh blueberry, we ALWAYS have a frozen lot on deck. We like adding blueberries to smoothies, morning granola or cereal, and desserts. But we also eat them raw dog all the time. Put the junk food down at the office and grab a handful of blueberries for a healthy snack. There is no candy that compares to the stuff Mother Nature provides! Also, especially when it comes to berries, buy organic when you can. If it's not available or it's not in the budget, make sure you wash them diligently before you consume.

Here's some out-of-the-box ideas that we love with blueberries:
